In
the fall of 1949, Warren County Baptists conducted a survey of the
northern area of Vicksburg in the area surrounding the City
Cemetery to determine the need for a mission.
In the late fall and winter of 1949 Wednesday night prayer
services were held in a home on Lover’s Lane.
First Baptist Church
led out in financial and spiritual support of this mission.
Soon a tent was placed on the land on City Cemetery Rd. and as a
result of meetings and the building of a one-room building,
Trinity Baptist Church was chartered on November 4, 1951 and
shortly after deacons were elected.
One
of the first acts of the members after becoming an independent
church was to work with First Baptist Church and help organize a
church on the south end of town.
This mission began as Harmony Baptist Mission which later
became known as the Highland Baptist Church.
Trinity
continued to grow both numerically and physically with building
additions in 1952, 1954, 1956, 1958, and 1972.
During this time education space, a basement, auditorium
expansion, entrance improvement and a steeple were added.
In
1979, as a result of a long range planning committee study, the
church membership approved the purchase of land on Porters Chapel
for future relocation.
In 1983 ground was broken for the construction of the new
facility.
The first service in the new location was held on April 7,
1985.
In
2010-2011, the building has seen a porte-cochere and expanded
parking, drive and landscaping as well as the interior
refurbished.
Additional plans are now being developed.
In
October 2011, Trinity celebrated their 60th Birthday
celebration with services at both locations.
Former staff and members attended this great time of
celebration of God’s blessings.
